Kubota Tractor Corporation has officially introduced the U17-5 zero-tail swing compact excavator at World of Concrete 2024, highlighting its enhanced stability, improved operator comfort, and increased efficiency. This latest addition to Kubota’s U Series lineup replaces the U17VR1 and is one of several powerful new machines making their debut at the event. The U17-5 will be available through Kubota’s authorized dealerships in the first quarter of the year.

Advanced Features for Demanding Jobs

Powered by a 16.1-hp Kubota diesel engine, the U17-5 delivers impressive performance metrics, including:
Digging depth: 7 ft. 6.2 in.
Dumping height: 8 ft. 1.2 in.
Bucket breakout force: 3,547 lbs.

Designed for versatility and power, the U17-5 is equipped with a factory-installed thumb bracket, allowing users to attach an optional hydraulic thumb with ease. Additionally, an auxiliary control system integrated into the joystick provides precision control, with a thumb-operated switch for proportional flow and a forefinger-operated switch for oil flow adjustments.

For seamless attachment transitions, Kubota has incorporated an auxiliary diverter valve, enabling the hydraulic thumb attachment to remain connected while redirecting oil flow to other attachments as needed.

Weighing 3,902 lbs., the U17-5 has been redesigned for greater stability. The rear-end extension has increased by 1.2 inches, while the track gauge can expand up to 4 ft. 3.2 in., enhancing support for heavy-duty attachments. When navigating tight spaces, the track gauge can retract to 3 ft. 3 in., allowing easier access through narrow job sites.

Operator Comfort & Productivity Enhancements

Kubota has prioritized operator comfort and efficiency with a redesigned operator station. The U17-5 features:
🔹 Semi-suspension seat with increased foot space for a more comfortable work environment.
🔹 Ergonomic control placement, ensuring faster, more intuitive operation.
🔹 Front meter panel, positioned for improved visibility, offering a one-touch button operation to access essential machine metrics such as engine hours and RPM.
🔹 Redesigned right-side control panel, housing the key switch, throttle control, mobile phone holder, and a USB charging port for added convenience during long work hours.

To enhance safety and usability, the U17-5 includes:
✔️ Engine emergency stop switch for immediate shutdown when necessary.
✔️ Swivel parking brake and unload lever, simplifying transportation and maneuverability.
✔️ LED boom work lights, ensuring visibility in low-light conditions.
✔️ ROPS and OPG canopy, offering rollover protection and enhanced job site security.

Technology & Efficiency Upgrades

Kubota has equipped the U17-5 with an auto-idling system, which automatically reduces engine RPM during periods of inactivity, optimizing fuel efficiency and engine longevity. The two-pattern selection system (ISO/SAE) allows operators to choose the most familiar control pattern, enhancing productivity.

Additionally, KubotaNOW telematics provides real-time machine tracking, giving operators and fleet managers access to critical data, including:
📍 Location tracking
Engine hours monitoring
⚠️ Diagnostics & maintenance alerts
